Reflexology

Reflexology is a science that believes that every part of your body is reflected in your feet and hands. There are even corresponding areas to be found on your ears! By stimulating these points or reflexes, blood circulation in the body is improved, nerve impulses are unblocked and the body is relaxed and energised.

Reflexology works on every system in the body, aiming to bring balance, however serious the health problem. It also helps on an emotional level, relaxing and calming a stressed and anxious mind. Reflexology is a truly holistic therapy.

Earliest known references to Reflexology date back to early Egyptian times.

However, Eunice Ingham, known as the 'Mother of Reflexology', brought it to the Western world only in the last century. She studied the work of Dr William Fitzgerald on zone therapy, a method of applying pressure to the fingers and toes to relieve pain in the corresponding zone or section of the body.

Eunice was working as a physiotherapist for Dr Joe Shelby Riley and with his support; she spent years, painstakingly mapping the links between the zones on the body and zones on the feet and hands. She had incredible success with her clients, many recovering from long-standing health problems. Her books, "Stories the Feet Can Tell" and "Stories the Feet Have Told" are inspirational.

Dwight C Byers, Eunice Ingham's nephew, found that his hay fever completely disappeared after his aunt worked on his feet! He became her best pupil and founded the International Institute of Reflexology® to teach the 'Original Ingham Method of Reflexology' all over the world.

In his late seventies, Dwight C Byers is still inspiring Reflexologists today with his passion and expertise.

Today, Reflexology is developing and progressing into the most effective therapy for holistic healthcare. Exciting new techniques mean that each treatment can be adapted to your specific needs and faster results can be achieved by promoting your body's own healing response.

Reflexology can benefit many ailments such as: - Back related pain, Headaches, Digestive disorders, Stress related disorders, Sinusitis, Infertility, Hormonal imbalance Just to name a few.

Reflexology is suitable for all ages. An increasing number of people are using this safe, natural therapy which helps to relax, balance and harmonise the body.

Foot Reflexology is the most well known, but hand Reflexology is equally as effective in relieving stress and tension, balancing the body and improving nerve and blood supply. Reflexologists find hand treatments also useful when the foot may be too painful too work on, through injury for example.
