Reflexology
Reflexology works on the whole body aiming to bring balance within the body and mind - a state known as homeostasis. It can help to relieve stress and tension, relaxing the body and calming the mind. It is thought that Reflexology dates back as far as Ancient Egyptian times where hieroglyphics found in the tomb of Ankhmahor (the highest official after the king) depict what looks like a hand and foot therapy. The late Eunice Ingham (known as the 'mother of Reflexology') was the founder of this therapy in the early 1930's and brought it to the attention of the western world. It was after studying the work of a Dr William Fitzgerald on Zone Therapy - a method of applying pressure to fingers and toes to relieve pain in the corresponding zone - that Eunice Ingham began to link her theory that this could work on the feet. Whilst working as a physiotherapist for a Dr Joe Shelby Riley and with his support she spent years painstakingly mapping the links between the zones on the body and their relation to the feet and hands. The incredible success she had with her clients has been logged in her books called 'Stories the Feet Can Tell' and Stories the Feet Have Told'. Eunice Ingham's nephew Dwight Bowers has continued the teachings of her work around the world. He was the founder of the IIR (International Institute of Reflexology) which teaches the original 'Ingham' method of Reflexology. Now in his late seventies he is still continuing to inspire Reflexologists today with his expertise and passion for this wonderful therapy. Reflexology can help with many conditions including;
