Chana Dahl

A quick to prepare tasty vegetarian dahl.

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 400g chick peas, drained
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 20g fresh ginger
  • 2 tsp turmeric
  • 4 green chillies
  • 200g small tinned tomatoes

Method

  • Fry the onions and garlic in a pan until golden brown
  • Add cumin seeds and ginger and cook for 1 minute
  • Add turmeric and chillies and cook for a further minute
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and simmer for 5 minutes
  • Add 1 litre of water, bring to the boil and add the chick peas
  • Simmer for 30 minutes
  • Garnish with coriander
