A Case for Discernment

Who do you believe?

This is an important question in this the information age. We are bombarded with information daily and how do we decide which is useful and accurate and which isn't?

A Case in Point

Here's a case in point. Who remembers Mr. Ed the talking horse? (For younger readers please ask an older family member. Entertainment was much simpler in the past.) In fact you probably remember the song don't you? Go on, admit it.

A horse is a horse of course of course

And no one can talk to a horse of course

Unless of course the horse of course

Is the famous Mr. Ed.

When is a horse not a horse?

Well guess what I discovered recently. Mr. Ed wasn't a horse at all. He was a zebra!

The horse who was supposed to play Mr. Ed wouldn't perform properly and the director heard about a performing zebra at a local zoo. The zebra would do what they wanted so they hired it. They dyed its coat and as the program was shot in low definition black and white (for younger readers please ask an older family member) no one spotted the difference. It was only when the network changed over to colour broadcasting that the series ended, as the ruse would have been easily seen through in colour.
