MMR - What You Need to Know I've just been depressed by reading in the newspaper that the government want to make the MMR vaccination compulsory because they want to emulate the quote success that they have in America unquote. They bang on about how safe it is and how it can make a big difference to our public health. My response is mono-syllabic, and they bounce. This comes just after Dr. Julie Garberding, the director of the Centres for Disease Control in America (the equivalent to our public health department) has just announced on national TV that there may be a 1 in 50 chance of getting Autism from the MMR. Yes, you read that correctly The US government has finally admitted, after decades of denials, that vaccinations are linked to autism. However government officials are now circling the wagons. An excellent example of official obfuscation is seen in this interview with Julie Garberding, MD, director of the Centres for Disease Control. Her evasions and half-truths regarding autism are clearly shown even though she has no choice but to admit vaccines are linked to autism. It is NOT the government who have to look after damaged children, their parents do. It is NOT the government who have to go through life not being able to engage with the rest us, the children do. Be vociferous in your outrage about this. Make your MP work for you for a change and not for the people they hope to be working for when they retire.
