Clinical Aromatology

Aromatology is also known as aromatic medicine and involves a more intensive approach to the use of high quality, medical-grade essential oils and hydrolats, often involving neat topical application and internal use.

This approach has been used widely and successfully in France and other countries in Europe for many years and French doctors are often trained in the use of aromatic medicine. As aromatic medicine relies on science, a sound knowledge of essential oil chemistry is required and knowledge of the constituents, chemotypes and phytotherapeutic properties of the oils is of paramount importance.

Massage is not necessary for the majority of Aromatology treatments and bespoke blends, lotions, suppositories, etc. are often prescribed for home treatment once a thorough clinical assessment has been made.

Essential oils and creams may also be used in conjunction with Warm Paraffin Wax Therapy. Paraffin Wax Therapy is popular in many hospitals for treatment of orthopaedic complaints and is very beneficial for reducing swelling, pain of arthritis, rheumatism, gout and carpel tunnel syndrome. Skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema can also be helped.

The Clinical Aromatologist is Helen Jennings.
